This is a reminder that we (me) here at Master of What are in the midst of two simultaneous giveaways. Two. Dos. Zwei. Deux. You get the gist.

Last Monday, the Pet Portrait Giveaway was announced.

You can win yo-self a free, customized painting of Sparky just by emailing me (kara@masterofwhat.com) a brief message about your sweet animal compadre. I’ve loved hearing about your buddies, so keep ‘em comin’ folks!

The winner will be announced at the end of the month on September 30th.

We’ve (again, I’ve–perhaps there’s a feeling of safety in numbers?) also set up a giveaway for those who adore, and more importantly can actually eat, glutenous, crusty, delicious, bread. I’m giving away a year of free bread from Panera Bread ! All you have to do to enter your fine self to win is email me (kara@masterofwhat.com) a description of your favorite glutenous/bready (a word?) dessert. Those of you who’ve entered, I do appreciate the details as I live vicariously through all of you!

Here’s a reminder of what’s at stake:

In the words of Tim Meadows’s Ladies Man skit on Saturday Night Live, “It isth good.”

You only have until this Friday, September 24th to enter, so bring it, peeps!

Shameless Plugging:

I’d also like to take the opportunity to (shamelessly) promote an article I’ve written for Magazines.com on living longer. It’s based on a National Geographic article from 2005 by one Dan Buettner. His research (and no doubt his article for Nat’l Geo) have allowed him the opportunity to write his book Bluezones, the name he’s given to all the vitality “hot spots” around the world.

Buettner’s theories cover the usual suspects of diet and exercise, but the most intriguing aspect of his research is that of community or tribe, a concept near and dear to our (again, my) hearts here at Master of What. The idea is that life was not meant to be lived solitarily, but instead in solidarity with your tribe. Okay, Buettner doesn’t actually say “tribe,” but I think the next time we get together I’ll mention it, and I just know he’ll love it.

Until we, Dan and I that is, do find a time to collaborate, you can look forward to reading about some more of his findings as I plan to cover his book in this here blog.

Live long and prosper.

I love you long time.

Okay, I’ll stop with that one …
