What are you the best at? Have you mastered a skill? What do you want to be the best at? What do you want to master?
I know that I have not mastered anything. Mastery takes 10,000 hours of dedicated time. At least thats what Malcolm Gladwell suggests in his book Outliers. Its probably not exactly 10,000 hours but in order to master something it definitely takes a lot of dedicated time.
It’s not that I don’t want to master something it’s that I do not know what to master. I get bored very easily. I’ll go all in, I’ll buy an expensive camera and lens. I’ll go out and take photos but never do anything with them. I have thousands of photographs just sitting in my memory cards. This isn’t the only thing that I’ve tried to master. I keep trying new things but they never stick. I keep looking for that one thing that will just feel right that I will just continue to do and eventually master. I am a master of not mastering anything.
It is very clear now that my idea of the right thing just coming along is not going to happen. I have to pick something and just stick with it, when it gets hard I have to work just as hard maybe even harder. If you want to achieve things you’ve never achieved before, you have to do things you’ve never done before.
The purpose of this blog is to share my experience of mastering something. I am not sure what it will be yet but I will treat this blog like a journal and we’ll see where it goes.
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read this. Leave me a message and share your thoughts with me.
